Description
A 4 x 5.5 glossy greeting card, blank inside.
Pictured on the front is a mountain foliage view, surrounded by greenery. Photo was taken in South Royalton, Vermont by Diana Whittington, from her back yard porch. The photo was edited by Ashley Strobridge. The following poem, written on the back of this card, was written by Ashley Anne Strobridge, and dedicated to her mother, Diana Whittington, and step father, Ron Werner. It is inspired by this photo, and the many hours my mother spent reading the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings series to me and my sisters when we were growing up.
“Oh the Shire! The Shire!
I see you now, we have returned
from land that’s scarred, & land that’s burned
We’re welcomed home, into the Shire
From wandering the mirky mire
A stranger in a strange land
Coming home, with gold in hand.
There and back, to the rolling hills
Of Hobbiton, after the thrills
Of journey’s gone, we have come home
And here we rest, with flowers grown.
Before we left, the seeds were sown
They burst forth, like colors flown
Upon the turrets, above the throne
Won battles fought, with Sting and stone!
And here we are now
Breathing deep
The fresh air
Of the peace we reap
After hard work’s effort
We rest our heads
Upon the loamy flower beds
Taking in our golden view
Of home upon an Autumn’s dew…”
